Domain Policy

Last updated: 2026-05-25

Your domain is yours, always. We mean that. This page sets out how Sitelad handles domains on your behalf, the rights you retain, and what we commit to. It’s referenced from our Terms & Conditions and updated whenever the underlying flows change.

The summary

  • Bring-your-own domain (BYO): no fee, no lock-in. You connect a domain you already own at any tier. Disconnect any time — your DNS stays exactly where you set it.
  • Managed .co.uk (Pro and Premium): we register a .co.uk for you through Cloudflare. You are the legal registrant. Sitelad operates as your agent — we handle the renewals and the DNS while you have an active subscription.
  • Transfer-out is always free and we commit to completing the IPS-tag change within five working days of a verified request.

Bring-your-own domains

If you’ve already bought a domain elsewhere (123-reg, GoDaddy, Namecheap, Gandi, anywhere), connect it to your Sitelad site from the Admin → Domain panel.

  • We show you two DNS records to add at your existing registrar.
  • Once those records propagate, we verify and flip your site over.
  • You can disconnect at any time. We don’t touch your DNS — the records you added stay there until you remove them.
  • If you ever leave Sitelad, just delete the two records you added (or point them somewhere else). Your registration is untouched.

There’s no transfer-in fee, no transfer-out fee, no “domain hostage” tactic ever. If something here ever looks unclear, write to us.

Managed .co.uk registration

On Pro and Premium plans you can ask Sitelad to register a .co.uk for you. We do this through Cloudflare Registrar — they’re a Nominet-accredited registrar with at-cost pricing and no upsells.

  • You are the legal registrant on the WHOIS record. Sitelad appears only as the registrar contact.
  • We collect the minimum contact details Nominet require — your name, email, postcode, phone, and first line of address — and store nothing more on our side. Cloudflare’s WHOIS privacy is on by default.
  • We auto-configure DNS so your site goes live straight away.
  • Sitelad pays for the registration and auto-renews it as part of your subscription. There’s no separate domain fee on Pro/Premium — the £69/£99 monthly covers it.

When your subscription ends

If you cancel your Sitelad subscription, you keep the domain. Here’s what happens:

  • We send you a reminder 30 days before the next renewal date with a one-click “take ownership” flow that hands the domain over to a registrar of your choice via an IPS-tag change.
  • If you do nothing, we hold the domain for 30 days after your last paid period ends, then release it. We’ll never re-sell it.
  • During that 30-day window we keep auto-renewing it on our card. After it closes, the domain becomes available for general registration through Nominet.
  • We won’t bill you for the domain itself — that’s covered by our policy of “no hidden fees”.

Transferring out at any time

You can also transfer the domain at any time during your subscription, no questions asked. Two ways:

  1. From the dashboard: Admin → Domain → “Disconnect”. We stop routing your site on that domain, set your site back to the <you>.sitelad.co.uk subdomain, and email you with the IPS-tag change instructions.
  2. By email: send a request to hello@sitelad.co.uk from the email address registered on your account. We’ll get back to you within one working day to confirm the new registrar’s IPS tag and process the handover.

Either way we complete the IPS-tag change within five working days. The new registrar then takes over.

Renewals

  • While your subscription is active, Sitelad auto-renews the domain on its card. You don’t see a separate invoice.
  • If you cancel, you must transfer the domain out before its next renewal date if you want to keep it. We’ll remind you 30 days before that date.
  • If you forget and the domain lapses, you have the standard Nominet 90-day grace period to recover it from any Nominet registrar — same as if you’d registered it yourself.

Email on managed domains

Premium plans include “custom email from your domain” — we’ll add the MX, SPF and DKIM records on request. BYO domains can do the same: you add the records at your registrar.

Sitelad doesn’t host mailboxes. We recommend pairing the domain with Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or Fastmail. The records we set don’t conflict with any of the major email providers.
